If you are applying for adjustment of status and you travel anywhere outside the US (including brief visits to Canada or Mexico) while your application is pending, USCIS will deny you form application. Unless, before you leave the US, you obtain a grant of advance parole or you are a non-immigrant who is maintaining a lawful legal status and you return with the valid legal status.
